FSW Design Limited have again received a prestigious award in recognition of the outstanding quality of design work produced by the consultancy.<.p>
On March 1st, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, FSW were awarded a commendation in the Industrial Product Design category of the Design Week Awards for their work on "Skipper" an innovative new safety product.
The clever device slots on to the top of a traffic cone. Road cones can then be linked to create a barrier by drawing out the tape to the required length and connecting to a series of clipping points on the unit's body. To prevent unwanted spooling of the tape, simply clicking a button on the side of the unit operates a patented locking device.
Since its launch in the autumn of 2004, the Skipper Barrier has quickly gained strong market approval in the targeted marketplace. With 480 million existing road cones worldwide, the global potential for the product is phenomenal and the intention is that Skipper becomes established as the generic name for this type of barrier.
A panel of design experts headed by Sebastian Conran son of Sir Terence Conran founder of Habitat, judged the awards. The judges were particularly impressed by the standard of entry for the Industrial Product Design category. In support of FSW Designs entry the judges stated:
"Skipper, Designed by FSW, shows how good design can make a real difference."
Director Philip Forrest Smith expressed delight at receiving the award saying. "Many hours of hard work go into completing a design project of this nature, so it is very satisfying to gain recognition for what has been achieved, particularly when there were such a large number of entries from an international field.
It is, also, great that Skipper will be manufactured locally, showing how good design and innovation can help introduce new revenue streams to a regions economy."
